The United Kingdom is situated just off the coast of Western Europe. London is the world’s largest international financial centre UK is today the fifth largest economy in the world and the second largest in Europe. Britain’s aerospace industry is the second- or third-largest national aerospace industry depending on the method of measurement. UK has the third-highest share of global pharmaceutical research and development. Of the world’s 500 largest companies, 26 are headquartered in the UK. The UK is is certainly a major global financial hub and a significant player in international business. One reason for this is the UK’s long history of trade and commerce, which has helped to establish a business-friendly culture and legal framework. London, in particular, is a major financial center and home to the London Stock Exchange, one of the largest and most important stock markets in the world. Many of the world’s leading banks and financial institutions have offices in London, and it is also a hub for international trade and investment.

The social market economy that the United Kingdom (UK) has is quite advanced. By nominal gross domestic product (GDP), purchasing power parity (PPP), and GDP per capita, it is the sixth-largest national economy in the world and accounts for a sizeable percentage of nominal world GDP. The UK accounts for a sizeable part of global GDP in PPP terms.
